After much heated debate President Zardari has at last signed the Swat peace agreement prepared by NWFP government called Nizam-e-A
dal.
But there are strong reservations expressed both by our political parties and our media as well as foreign media.
Let us now stock will this declaration stand the test of time or there will be more chaos in Swat ?.
Firstly,we have to understand this is an agreement between a truly elected democratic government of “ANP” which has mass support and Moulana Sufi Mohammad who is a religious cleric and this is the first time any government has accepted his demand with binding for peace in Swat.
Lot of people question why this agreement is signed and it will give Taliban power to dominate anywhere they want but this is actually a peace agreement restricted to a particular location.
Pakistan army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani recent statement is also very encouraging saying”Peace agreement is actually time given for diplomacy to succeed if it is overruled army will vanish all miscreants”.
At the same time,we have to understand that Moulana Sufi Mohammad is only an individual with no authority ,we must not take his words seriously but let him talk big and our media must not give him that importance as he is a head of state.
This is the time we act right and all parties conference is need of time and we should formulate a joint strategy to combat Taliban and improve security situation in the country.
This is a tough job but we have to take initiative ,a mass movement is required by the government to improve the situation and no one can do this better than our media.
Media should also realize its importance at this important venture of our history . These are hard times and Nations come stronger from tough times.
Government must not show any lineant attitude for extremism and at the same time keep foreign forces at a distance and stop them from giving misleading statements as they don’t have knowledge about ground realities.
