American Pak-Afghan special envoy Richard HolBrook is in Pakistan these days on his four day visit to know the ground reality in Pakistan.
He has met with President Zardari,PM Gillani,Foreign minister and Interior minister and also Chief of Army Staff and will meet other politicians and members of civil society to get a fair idea of the situation at ground and will present his analysis to President Obama and Sec.of State Hillary Clinton.
After a meeting with HolBrook ,President Zardari has said he raised the issue of increasing aid to Pakistan by America and demanded special equipment to Pakistan to fight insurgency in tribal areas.
President Obama has also expressed his willingness to bring a significant change regarding American policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan. The visit of HolBrook is actually a step in this direction.
President Zardari also pressed HolBrook for stopping the drone attacks inside Pakistan territory which is causing great anger in Pakistanis and are a direct attack on the sovereignty of Pakistan.
American vice President Joe Biden also visited Pakistan before taking his oath and met all important people but one feels he was not able to communicate properly with Obama regarding Pakistan grievances and reservations.
Many people believe President Obama has taken the same path as of Bush and if there is not a significant change in President Obama’s policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan ,then only time will tell what he gains from his four year term as President.
Meanwhile,Democrat Senator John Kerry has said We must not allow Afghan situation to cause disturbance in Pakistan and protect Afghan warriors from entering Pakistan territory.
Most people have expressed their reservation on the track record of R. HolBrook including American great thinker ‘Noam Chomsky‘ who call it a wrong step.
Sources also predicted R.HolBrook will also meet moderate Taliban leaders in his trip to Afghanistan and pave the way for a unitary government in Kabul after coming elections as Obama has strong concerns over the performance of Hamid Karzai government.
The question that matters here is will things change and will there be any change in U.S policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan, this is a million dollar question and first change should be a clear declaration to stop drone attacks inside Pakistan territory.
It is also binding on Pakistan leaders to take a principle stand to protect and safe guard Pakistan territory and compel U.S officials to understand increasing pressure on them from the people and institutions of state.
It is time we keep our eyes wide open and fight any danger facing this brave Nation ,the Nation of Pakistan.
