Pakistan BroadBand Problems, Ptcl DSL Problems, Links Dot net DSL Problems

Ciber CafePakistan Telecom industry is developing very fast as most of the internet users are switching toward faster internet. Many companies are providing service but the main player in this DSL industry is Still PTCL.

PTCL DSL service which is called Pakistan Broadband Package is highly rated but PTCL customer care department is very sub standard.

Another Big name in DSL service provider is Link Dot Net backed by Orascom Telecom and Mobilink, They are using white labelled Services of PTCL but there customer care department is very friendly.

Price for a average home user is Rs 1200 per month which is almost same for any service.

As the networks are new, customer are facing many problems of disconnectivity and unhappy surfing. I started with PTCL but then Switched to Link.net But they I have to switched back to PTCL.

    i have 1MB ptcl dsl connection bt my speed is only 425 kb i i had lots of compline to ptcl but fails to correct my problems i don’t know why they r cant saulf our costumer problems i think no professional person at ptcl and i think they end the dsl plane

  4. I use LINKDOTNET and I am very satisfied with their service. Despite some glitches (it is not a perfect world and every other ISP suffers from them!) I love that they are expanding their value added services and making an effort to really bring the Internet Revolution to the masses with free dial-up internet, reduced DSL packages and with their Gaming Portal and Social gup shup portal called ‘Hello’. It’s the total package that makes it fun and I love it!

  6. try Micronet broadband. Their service is awesome and so is their customer help center. and what’s more, they are rpoviding double the speed for same rates. i.e. 1 Mbps at 1200 PKR while link.net and PTCL provide 512Kbps at 1200PKR.

  7. On 28th of feb, 2009 I got PTCL 512 but problem start in a way that my modem (shiro) is hang after a short period so I restart it and life is good again but it hang again after 15 minutes. So that night I used to restart it again and again after short time periods. Some time I can’t access modem config page at http://192.168.1.1.

    I observer that I can’t ping PTCL DNS: 203.99.163.240 and can’t access my gateway which starts 116.x.x.x.
    I call on 1218 and tell him all the story he says go to your local exchange and change your modem, so I went to exchange and got a new shiro modem.

    It start working but ping break problem exists. I restart my modem and it never sync again, modem light blinks 11 time and then off. So I call ptcl support and he says ” remove that filter which u used and 2nd tip is :short main ptcl black wire( drop wire)…. but it never fix my problem. I call again and he says I ‘ve noted your complain. Now almost 24hrs has been passed and my problem persists ,may be they think this is the only responsibility to hear client problem and do nothing after that.

  8. Hello to all, well i am although new to PTCL’s broadband yet quite comfortable with the service, not with the support though. Well anyone who’s got dissconnection or hangout problem, should goto Modem configuration at 172.168.1.1 and change timeout from 10 to 0. with this timout it won’t disconnect or hang hopefully InshaALLAH.

    Theres no such address (172.168.1.1) to configure the Modem. Correct address to configure modem is 192.168.1.1.

    Most of the users dont have Modem Configurations Panel passwords. As the default password admin/admin is not applicable on all modems.

    By the way I agree with this PTCL Bull Shit, they just listen and not made any steps forward to resolve the issues.

    connection is 512kbps and i pay 839 per month and i was useing 40kB to 70kB per second now ptcl doubled the speed with the same price

    now i m utilizing 90kB to 160kb per second

    if some one have any probleum with the dsl the i give a segetion to him/her to check the ptcl connection from pole to the modam.

  13. i have PTCL DSL Student package. i am using shiro modam. my problem is that my internet disconnect some time for around on hour or so. modam lights show internet connect put there is no browsing or i cannot ping 203.99.163.240 .
    Any solution ???

    • Just Restart your modem. I think there is a problem in your home phone line internal wiring.

  14. i got PTCL broadband 512 K which they upgraded to 1 MB. but i m getting a download speed of under 25kb/s. called PTCL support and they gave me 24 hours for the problem to be solved. God knows whats the problem coz they cant seem to figure it out. when i had 512 K i used to get internet speed of around 55kb/s. i was so much better that way then it is now. as long as they fix my problem..i m happy

  15. The thing is that I’ve a ptcl broadband of 1 mb and my speed is 912 kbps so thats why i am annoyed but it is near to 1 mb

  16. just got ptcl 1 mb at home and is soooo fustrating since 8 days my fone is dead and internet is not working , had made many many calles but no one is listning, i regret why i applied for this connection, can any one give me any contack number for high level office in islamabad or customer service which can get this problem solved .
    i think i will disconnect my dsl and switch to some other connection .

  17. My PTCL DSL is not working since 18th of Feb, 2009. The problem is same as many others, speed is limited to 40k when it works (which is for 2-3 seconds on each reboot of the modem). I have a 2 MBps connection!

    It took me one hour and forty minutes on the phone just to get hold of a Customer Support guy the first time I called. The problem is still not fixed. I have visited the local exchange five times met with the DE there twice. I also went to their main office (Agerton Road) twice, talk to the concerned DSL person (Farooq), who in my opinion is arrogant and extremely incompetent. Instead of fixing the problem he made it worse.

    Meeting the Manager even yielded no result, though he promised to get the problem fixed the same day. I guess they are all habitual liars with no sense of morality or responsibility.

    I have a 1MB connection, the problem is when I have picked the receiver of my phone, the net works fine. But when I hang up my phone, the DSL light starts blinking. Please help me if someone can.

  19. i want to inform all of you specially those who said “our connection is 1 mbps and in bandwidth meter shows 430″ that 1mbps is shared within 4 to 5 users.that is da maan chudaaaeee of service provider.if you dont believe than conform from ur service provider.

I got a 4mb PTCL Broadband connection 5 days back and having a download speed of 86 k only. everyday i am calling dere customer service but no one answers..and if they do they all say the same thing ” Your complain has been noticed i please hold on” and then for 5 min the musik goes on and lines drops..WUT THE F***

    I `m using PTCL DSL from almost over an year, The Technology they have is up to the mark no dought about that. But Iagree with 100% with all the above people they really don’t care about the customers. There Staff still lives in the era when PTCL has monoploy our the commuincations and they use to take cash under the table, same kind of attituitue still exists..
    I have Reconnectivity Issue from last 6 months and over thousend of complains first non on listen even if some one does they don’t no how to fix it.

  25. i have 1mbps ptcl broadband connection but the problem is that whenever i turn on my broadband modem it works only for 15 minutes minimum and 1 hour maximum. after the mentioned time the (shiro) modem becomes very hot and then the given adopter stops working. i bought 4 adopter but all of them burns due to hotness. so please tell me how to handlw that problem.

PTCL customer support sux big time!!! its been a month my net is not upgraded to 2MB.the operator doest even know the problem himself.they give me 24 hrs everyday but nothing happens.2ndly my phonle line has so much noise.i call them everyday but they dont do anything.my modem gets unsync every 5 minutes.and they dont care.my friend was having same problem and now he is on micronet and he is very happy.im changing my service to micronet.thanx ptcl :P

  29. I thought I was the only one suffering. I got 1 mb not month ago and the service seemed great. However got it changed to 2 mb within 5 days and it was superb for some days. Suddenly one day it started getting from 2 mb to 1 mb to just a few kb’s. I complained on some number I got from a guy and they said they have problems and are updating so it would take 1 or 2 more days. After 1 or 2 days the awesome speed was back. But since Friday 24th of April it suddenly got disconnected when I had later turned my PC on and is still off. The ‘internet’ light is off on the hub, however the dsl light is on. They are not even receivin my calls. I guess the first day they did receive my call but told me to hold on and then made me wait for a long time so I had to disconnect because no one was coming. Their customer service totally sucks. I’m back to my PTCL wireless but have asked some people related to this field to help me. No one is receivin the call since three days. I thought they might’ve disconnected my net cause I downloaded 3 gb or more data but it seems I’m not the only one who’s havin this problem. :(

    Approx 2 months ago i started using my dsl of 512 kb/sec.I first complaint on 1236,so tomorrow a person come do there work & told me to call him if any problem occurs & gave me his mob no.

    And i also went my self once to office.I also tried to call the head office but no 1 is recieving my call.

    And yah I also have to tell u the problem,Actually My noise margin is always between -7 to 8.The reason is that the wire to gulbahar comes from khyber bazaar which is almost 40 years old.the staff here tried alot but no one have cure about it.When i went there they told me that they know this problem and they also told it to the headoffice,but no one replied from head office.I have a student package.
    2nd thing is that i want to say about sadiq(He installed my DSL).He checked my sustem there is built in LAN card but was inactive from dos,So he don’t know how to activate it but infact he told me that there is some problem in your windows or lan card.I have vista opperating system.He told me to change my opperating system and will bring Lan card tomorrow.I agreed but i was not satisfied because i already have LAN card available but he don’t know how to active it.
    Tomorrow when he installed my dsl in windows xp,He told me that the lan card cost 300 Rps i gave 300 rps to him,But later when i checked the prices it was just arround 100 rps.I request u to do some thing about my DSL and sajid.

    i’m facing problem of DNS fail when diagnose in router configration the last option give red fail . my router name is ZTE ZXDSL 831 series black. when i ping my DNS address which is 203.99.163.240 or secondary 203.99.163.243 which they gave me once i’ve receive two errors most of the time one timeout and another is destination is not unreachable.
    Lights where not stable but when i find 4 or my lights on but can’t browse anything and brose like slower then modem.
    kindly help me

  32. Hi friends, We have been using WOL diap-up connection for the last 10-12 years and recently decided to swift to LINK DOT NET DSL PACKAGE 1-Mb.

    At first, I was very happy to have the DSL but when i started using it i found that they are cheating with customers and looting huge money from customer’s pockets.

    Infact, very few times, i got downloading speed upto 80 / 100 Kbps otherwise i have not been able to get speed excedding 40 Kbps, i dont know how to figure out what’s the probelm,

    The main problem is disconnectivety, DSL means 24-accessible but truely i could not get this kind of service.

    Their customer care department also sucks and it takes 15-20 minutes to be in contact with their customer care reprasentatives, and they have ready-made answer, everytime, they will reset your seetings and nothing will be imporved.

    I dont know exactly what should be the minmum speed for downloading at 1-Mb dsl connection, so can anybody tell me about that ?

    Moreover, I am planning to switch over to PTCL, may be they would provide good services,

I have a Ptcl Broadband connection.I had a 512 kpbs Internet speed but know they have doubled to the speed of 1024 kpbs But I’m still not satisfied with it as I have the same problem which every one says that is that it disconnects after some time. I have a shiro modem .The problem is that it’s DSL light which should not blink starts blinking and it is disconnected.
    I have called them several times on 1218 sometimes They make us wait for 1 hour or and sometimes when they pick up phone They give long intructions that what to do and how to configure but at last it did’nt worked everyone’s says write that all of the men with their duties to pick up and solve the problem just listen and don’t do any thing.

    but due to poor and lazzy service of your employee. they c,nt provide conection . when i ask about my conection .they have poor response me . they said to me your are applied for student package it will take 2 to 3 weeks, his attitude was not good with me.he was kidding at me. so your employees manner was not good whith coustomers,i think they d,nt knows coustomer rights.

    Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is generally the lowest dB manufactures specify in order for the modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. Generally speaking, as overall bandwidth increases, your signal to noise ratio decreases. So a customer that upgrades from 1.5 to 6.0 service will typically see a corresponding decrease in the signal to noise ratio. The higher the number the better for this measurement.

    6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
    7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
    11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
    20dB-28dB is excellent
    29dB or above is outstanding

    Line Attenuation

    Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. One of the biggest factors affecting line attenuation is distance from the DSLAM. Generally speaking, bigger distances mean higher attenuation. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.

    20dB and below is outstanding
    20dB-30dB is excellent
    30dB-40dB is very good
    40dB-50dB is good
    50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
    60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

    i am also using PTCL broadband ! mb/sec package (student package) . My noise margin is nearly to 10 but line attenuation is 67.5. i did so many complains and when they came they told ur distance from exchange is very far.but they helped me alot now my downloading speed is above 50

    Those who having problems with Dsl Connection Please not down the following Tips !!11
    1-Most of the problems not directly linked with Ptcl ,in many cases the line man who Proivded you phone line please asked him that what about your ptcl phne D.P pair condition .AS most of the time Line man Gives you worst pair connection of phone line( voice distortion) which causes pathtic speed..
    2-Those who having good pair or line without any noise please restart your router soon you feel that speed is slow,its Common Error in ZTE router that they hanged after every 5 to 6 hours in contineous used.
    3-Change your router from ZTE or Shiro to Hawai 510 which is one of the best router ,but Ptcl restricked it for only TV subscriber.
    4-When you type 192.168.1.1 please note that if your voice margin is 32-33 then there is nothing wrong with your phone line might some other problem

    If any one of Ptcl Official read this please allow to every user for Hawai 510 in order to prevent for such negative feed back although PTCL try its best to boost up the things which will time taken.

  53. Hey, I need some quick help. I got my DSL connection on the 7th of July, and it was working just fine until it stopped working altogether three days back. The status of the connection shows as CONNECTED, but the basic problem is that it sends 3 times more Packets than it receives, and I can’t figure out how to fix the problem.   58. I am too re grated with PTCL services. It is a Pakistan based but actually not, services are totally centralized & not good with Balochistani peoples. I have called the Helpline of f**king PTCL a several times but they just say that “hold on i’ll transfer your call to the technicians”. But after a long hold of 1/2 or more hour, no mother gives response. These are capable for sending bills & recieving payments without any reason. Oh! There is a reason,, this is what we consumers pay for. Modem is for no use. In a world of fast Telecommunication PTCL are way way behind. Whenever a recieves the call from a consumer he hears like asleepy dum headed Customer Care Centre Operator. F**king PTCL actually does’nt have a Customer Care Service. F**k all PTCL employees.

  69. I m using PTCL DSL since December 2008. I got Shiro Modem, and i think this thing is worst Modem of the world. My modem resets its own and usualy DSL light do not remian stable. I changed my modem by hard. It worked only for 2 months, now the same old problm is there. I tried to change Shiro to Zte, Ptcl told me it is not possible, then they told me if want Zte it will cost you 3000bucks. They gave me an adopter called Voltage controller for 400bucks but it doesnt work. I am going to unsubscribe to PTCL Dsl. Any one Plz tel me about Wateen or LinkNet. I am in Quetta there is only these three Dsl providers are available. Please tell me witch one is good. Not PTCL…….

    ptcl is the worst, i m using it for last 3 monthsm, they suck big time, their curtomer services is worst i seen in the world, i had 1 mb connection and i can barely stay connected to this shity connection, i will surely shift to some other worhty provider in near future. i dono y etisalat is so good in uae and unable to control this peice on junk ptcl here.

I got the connection about 2 months ago and it was working fine at start but after a month it started disconnecting every 5-10 minutes. and never reconnects again but when I make a call. Its that when broadband is disconnected I found out that when I make a call it starts getting signals and connects again but disconnects again after some time. I complained PTCL many time and they checked the connection and even they arent able to solve it. So plz tell me any possible solution of my problem I cant make calls all day and night.     they provide me connection after 4 months of applying request.

    But I know a key solution for them. If you give them warning to go to Supreme Court and/or Federal Mohtasib Institute, then they will do your work.

  103. Its not even a month yet with my PTCL DSL connection and I’m fed up. The speed might be 1Mb, but with the inmittent service as good as 128 kb may be even less. I’m seriously thinking to UNSUBSCRIBE. So far its NOT value for money.

    If you have 1 mbps DSL connection your downloading speed should be around 150 to 200 KBPS ( Thats EXtra-ordinary)
    If you are facing browsing speed problem then there must be a serious problem !!!

    I wana share a very imp info for all those complaining the download speed.
    Actually this is a shared network, ur 1MB connection will give u max 1MB download speed but will b shared amonen imagineg a group of users.
    as ptcl users r too much so u dont even expect u got 1MB speed on 1MB connecction.
    If u want this much speed go for a dedicated 1MB connection which will cost u around Rs 5000 or more.
    My company paying Rs 32000 for 3MB Dedicated connection.

    Hopefully u will thanks ptcl for what it is giving u in Rs 1000 ;)

When we Complaint on 1218 they jus tell ur prblm will be solved in 24 to 48 hours But 48 Days are left & am Still Facing Speed Problum. I have 1mbps Student Pakg & my Downloading speed is 8.6KB Jus like Dial Up..
    Well last week I was in Karachi & living in FB area the Broadband speed was Ousumm they jus take 600p/m and their Downloading speed was 500kb/ps. they are providing internet service by WAN & tat was oussuuumm I think We Have to Make Setup Like That..

  113. I am using DSL, Model No. Huawei SmartAX MT 882, – 1000 Mbps.
    No doubt about its working performance if it is connected with main PTCL line. The problem is , its connection will stop every month for one or two weeks due to the laziness of PTCL worker. They never sort out the fault in time, just tell lie.
    When people visit there office for complain, they will reply that you reached home your fault is fixed and your service is ON but this practices will take two weeks and your connection still OFF. Is there any one in the Department who read these comments and sort out people’s problem , in my knowledge, there is no one, we are just wasting our time to write comments and complain.

    I have been using PTCL Broadband DSL since over a year now, and there have been problems off & on of the speed and of internet connection.
    3 months back the problem had persisted for over one and a half month and after innumerable complaints our problem was resolved. However, it only worked for a month..Since last two months our DSL is totally blocked out, least to talk about the speed it does not even connect atall. I have online classes to attend and cannot afford to have this persistent problem.
    We have been putting in complaints but in vain..we always get to hear a recorded voice assuring us that PTCL will send in a technical person to solve the problem the next day..It has been about two months now and no Technical person has appeard at our door step as said; our problem persists.
    Now we want to remove the DSL service and landline. Please guide how to proceed. And since the DSL has not been working since last two months, we are not even liable to pay the package bill!
    Please give your feedback as to how do we proceed to remove the connection.
    I expect that on net atleast you prove to be efficient enough to reply.
